Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th from Moving Ahead ServicesAs the Fourth of July approaches, we want to let you know that we will be closed for the holiday and will not schedule or complete any moves on that day. Normally, we might say this apologetically, as we don’t enjoy depriving you of an opportunity for help, but this is a particularly important holiday for us, and it should be for you too.

People have come to view Independence Day as little more than a reprieve from work and an excuse to grill some burgers and hot dogs under the sun with friends and family. While those aspects are great and we certainly don’t blame anyone for being happy about that (we’ll probably spend the day similarly ourselves), it is too easy to forget the reason behind the holiday, and what it really means for our country.

The Fourth of July is when our country became free, and having the day off even years later is meant to give us time to show appreciation for the sacrifices made to deliver us our independence. As a company started and owned by a military veteran, we are very aware of what it means to fight for America, whether contemplating the beginning battles that brought us our freedom or the battles still going on today to keep ourselves and others safe.

It is easy to forget these battles in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and we aren’t meant to be dwelling each day on the hardship that accompanies fighting for freedom, as our soldiers are out there fighting so that their people can live happy and healthy lives. However, there is one day each year where Americans should reflect, where people should take a moment to stop and think about the sacrifices that have been made so that they can miss work to grill, swim, or watch fireworks.

On Independence Day, we will not be working. We will be spending time with our families and taking part in some of the same summer activities that you will. We will also be remembering our troops, past and present, fallen and victorious, and we will immerse ourselves in gratitude, not only for the sacrifices that have been made, but the freedom that we still have after all of this time.

What we’re asking of you, our customers, is to take a moment that day to reflect on those things as well, to watch those fireworks with your children and whisper to them that each firework represents a soldier who did fight or is fighting for our country’s freedom, that each bang is an expression of celebration. Whether you were born in the U.S. or came here from another country, you are an American, and you should be proud, so take a day to demonstrate your pride and appreciation so that our next generations remember that freedom isn’t free.

From the bottom of our hearts, Moving Ahead Services wishes you a memorable, safe, and happy 4th of July.
