Just a Reminder this ‘Moving Season’

The Move for Hunger program goes a long way to impact our communities. For each of our offices, we are able to collect and distribute thousands of pounds of food each year! While food drives are a definite help, the real impact is from customers like YOU! Donating your food when you move is the easiest way to help us help those in need.

Move for Hunger is a non profit initiative that helps coordinate donation and volunteer services for over 1,000 relocation companies in the US and Canada. As part of the program, Move For Hunger has collected and distributed 10 million pounds of food! Since 2009, Move For Hunger has provided the equivalent of 8 million meals to those in need.

How the Move for Hunger Program Works

Move for hunger programThe best part about the Move for Hunger program is that it is EASY and makes your life EASIER! We try to make it as simple as possible!

If you are moving, we provide you a box (or boxes) to toss any non-perishable food items into to. In many cases, these items would go into the trash! This is a way to prevent throwing out good food and getting it to those in need through local food pantries and more.

The day of your move we seal up your Move For Hunger box and deliver it to a local organization. In Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Columbus and Cincinnati we have developed a great network of organizations that rely on donations to help community members. These organizations also provide us the opportunity to aid in food drives, deliveries, events and more.

For your upcoming move, or if you have a friend, neighbor or loved one moving soon – PLEASE let them know about the Move for Hunger program! These donations, no matter how small or large, collectively have a profound impact on our community and across the country.

We are proud and excited to announce the opening of our latest office in Pittsburgh! Our full service, local and long distance moving company office is open, along with storage, junk removal services and more.

The Pittsburgh office is the 5th office for Moving Ahead Services, and our first in Pennsylvania. While we have provided long distance moving for customers going into or coming out of the Steel City area, the local office allows us the proper licensing and the ability to serve our customers local moving needs.  Our Pittsburgh General Manager is a long standing Moving Ahead Services’ team member, and a local native to the Pittsburgh area.

A Look Back in Time

A lot has changed over the years, including within our business, with Angie’s List and with the Angie’s List Award itself. Over the years, Angie’s List customers have played a very important role in our business. In the early days, Angie’s List was one of our first customer bases and has maintained a significant impact on our offices.  Angie’s List has changed over the years, expanding to allow new features and easier ways to communicate with customers. Another huge change is Angie’s List dropping their subscription requirement – Meaning that you no longer have to pay to be an Angie’s List member as a customer. Angie’s List is harnessing the power of the internet and allowing customers to use the great platform without a monthly fee.

Today, Moving Ahead Services has grown to 4 offices in 2 states, completing thousands of moves each year. Our growth and success over the years is in large part to customers providing great feedback! Columbus Mover of the Month

Columbus Move For Hunger Awarded Mover of the Month

It has been a busy year in Columbus and we are excited to announce that we are wrapping up the year with the Mover of the Month Award from Move for Hunger!  From our very own food drive to assisting other local organizations with the logistics of their food drive, we are happy to be a part of fighting hunger in our community.

We are also proud and grateful to have received a plaque presented by Leadership Excellence!

In September, Leadership Excellence hosted a great food drive that involved 5 local schools. They needed supplies and transportation help, and Move for Hunger knew who to call! Their food drive collected 600 pounds of food, over 500 meals for those in need!

About Move for Hunger

Move for Hunger is a program for Moving Companies to collect donations from customers that would otherwise likely be heading to the trash on moving day.  Unfortunately, moving day often means that items in your pantry that you no longer want or need to move, get tossed aside.  As part of the Move for Hunger program we provide a box or boxes and allow customers to fill them with donations. On moving day, we collect the items and then donate them to local organizations like the Dublin Food Pantry.

Move for Hunger has also evolved over the years for non-relocation companies to get involved as well!  Most recently, we assisted Leadership Experience and McKesson Corporation in their food drives.

To date, Moving Ahead Services Columbus has collected 2,500 pounds of food – over 2,000 meals for those in need!

The Holidays are (Almost!!) Here

Holiday 2017 plans are in motion! Join us in collecting donations and spreading cheer this holiday season. If you are interested in contributing to any of the organizations we work with, please let us know!

It is incredibly important for us to give back to the communities we work and live in, and to ensure that our family, neighbors, friends, team members and customers understand that every little bit helps – A single $1 goes a very long way.

Forbes House for Holiday 2017 Season

This year, Moving Ahead Services will be collecting gift cards to donate to Forbes House.  Forbes House is a Lake County domestic violence shelter, providing a safe haven for women and children in abusive situations.  Forbes House visitors are not charged for their counseling, stay, food or support  – But rather are rewarded once they get their life back and maintain a safe living environment free from their abuser.

Forbes House is small but mighty, however limited in the space they have to store donations.  Gift cards are a great way for us all to make a big impact – Whether you can donate $5 or $500.  If you are interested in donating gift cards or would like to donate wrapping paper, or learn more about Forbes House wish list of supplies, contact us today!

Providence House

Each year our holiday season kick off is the Deck the House event with Providence House.  Deck the House is their large annual fundraiser, providing donations to operate the crisis nursery throughout the year.  Each year, Moving Ahead Services donates T&M to safely wrap, pack and deliver all of the auctioned decorated holiday trees.

This year, Tuesday December 5th is the Annual Deck the House event, and we hope you will join us!  If you are unable to join, please consider making a donation to Providence House this holiday season.  Just $80 can provide 5 kids with a safe place to sleep and meals to eat.

Move for Hunger

During the holidays and all throughout the year, all Moving Ahead Services locations can be a donation point for any non-perishable food items you’d like to contribute to local food pantries and organizations in need.  If you are a moving customer, we can also drop off Move for Hunger boxes for you to pack as you are getting ready for moving day and cleaning out your cupboards.

Moving Ahead Services is proud and excited to announce – WE WON! At last nights’ Lake-Geauga Fast Track 50 Awards, Moving Ahead Services was selected as the 2017 winner for the Emerging Business Category.  We had a wonderful time, and are incredibly humbled and grateful for the recognition. The competition was fierce!

The third time is really the charm for our Fast Track 50 run! For the last 3 years, we were recognized as a Fast Track 50 top 25 fastest growing company in all applicants of Lake and Geauga County. Moving Ahead Services has also placed in the top finalists each year.  Taking home the prize for 2017 is a great achievement!

The Lake-Geauga Fast Track 50 Awards celebrated the 25th anniversary last night at Lamalfa in Mentor with keynote speakers Ed and Nancy Brown of Ladies and Gentlemen. The awards began 25 years ago with founder Frank Suponcic – well known in Northeast Ohio for Skoda Minotti and Arabica Coffee Shop in Downtown Willoughby, among a variety of other professional affiliations in our community.

The entire premise of Fast Track 50 is to recognize businesses that have a positive impact on our local economies by fostering growth in both financial sales and employee count. As a top contender, our recognition was based on a 5 year sales and employee growth trend.  The break out determination is based upon 80% sales, 20% employee growth to determine the top contenders and ultimately, the winners.  The entire event is separated by category, beginning with Emerging Business (Up to $2.75M in sales), Established (Over $2.75M in sales for 5 years) and Non profit.
